The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was finally signed on February 2nd, 1848, and it ended the Mexican American War. Its claims devastated the Mexican side, but it achieved the goals that President Polk had in mind, which was to expand the United States throughout North America. The boundary of the United States was established as the Rio Grande River. The United States also was to buy the land that would become California and New Mexico for 15 million dollars. Texas was acknowledged as a state of the United States.
